Paying in instalments: how does the payment schedule work?
Updated on 31/07/2026
You have chosen to pay for your booking in instalments, or you are wondering about an upcoming payment deadline? Here is how your payment schedule works, and what to do if you encounter any difficulty paying on time.
How does paying in instalments work?
When your booking is eligible (sufficiently in advance of your arrival date), Roomlala offers you the option to pay in instalments at the time of confirming your booking. Your payment is then split into several instalments:
- The booking fee and an initial deposit on the rent, paid immediately to confirm the booking
- Depending on the case, one or more intermediate instalments
- The balance (remaining rent, any additional charges and visitor's tax), to be paid before your arrival
Each instalment has an amount and a payment deadline. You can check them at any time from your booking by clicking on "Modify/view schedule": the "Your payment schedule" section displays each instalment with its status, amount and deadline ("Before the...").
Good to know: instalments are not collected automatically. You are the one who pays each instalment by bank card, by clicking on "Pay" from your schedule.
Can a payment deadline be moved or postponed?
No. The payment deadlines are set by the cancellation policy of the listing you have booked: they secure your booking with your host. Therefore, they cannot be moved or postponed, neither by you, nor by your host, nor by Roomlala.
However, you can pay an instalment in advance, at any time before its deadline. If you anticipate a difficulty (travel, bank delay...), this is the best thing to do: do not wait for the final day.
What happens if an instalment is not paid on time?
No nasty surprises: we will notify you by email, text message and notification 7 days and then 3 days before each deadline, and one last time on the deadline day.
If the instalment remains unpaid despite these reminders, your booking is automatically cancelled. Any sums already paid will then be refunded according to the listing's cancellation policy. To avoid this happening, pay your instalment as soon as possible, without waiting for the deadline.
A problem with your bank or your card?
Don't panic, here are the right steps to take:
- Pay your instalment now, without waiting for the deadline: this will give you time to find a solution in the event of a refusal
- Try another bank card: each instalment can be paid with the card of your choice
- Contact your bank to check your card's payment limit, and request a temporary increase if necessary
If the payment fails even though your card is working, you can contact our team by indicating the relevant booking: we will check what is blocking it. Please bear in mind, however, that a banking issue does not allow the deadline of an instalment to be postponed: in the event of a refusal from your bank, paying with another card remains the fastest solution.
